Semi-final Loss to Eventual Winner:
Audrey Hele lost her semi-final match against Anna Hoogwerf who went on to win the VLBA Victorian Champion of Champions event. After conceding the first 11 shots of the match it became a long drawn out battle with Audrey finally going down 18-25.

Wednesday 17th March 2010.

Audrey Hele in Semi-final of Champion of Champions:
Glen Waverley stalwart Audrey Hele has won her way to the semi-final stage of the Victorian Champion of Champions event currently being held at Berwick B.C. Having won her round of 16 match and the quarter-final both by eight shots over opponents from Colac Central and Somerville she now faces State player Anna Hoogwerf from Essendon in the semi-final to be played tomorrow (Thursday).

Wednesday 10th March 2010.

Close Club Event Finals:
The final of the Mixed Pairs Championship event between Ted Liddle/Norma Stanley and Trevor Mudgway/Carole Klop was being played last Saturday when the deluge struck and closed the greens for the day. After 16 ends both teams are tied with two more ends required to complete the match. Similarly the Club VLBA Pairs were tied after 18 ends and an extra end saw Lois Gardner (s) and Pat Campbell winners over Pam Wakeford (s) and Caryl Youdan by one shot.

Tuesday 9th March 2010.

Club events now a priority:
Several Club events are still to be completed and the scramble is now on to assemble teams and arrange matches to bring these events to a successful conclusion. Unfortunately bad weather conditions have not helped with this progress and members are now urged to finalize matches as soon as possible. The Club VLBA Pairs final is being played today between Pam Wakeford/Caryl Youdan and Pat Campbell/Lois Gardner.

Saturday 6th March 2010.

Thunder storm reeks havoc with RVBA Quarter-finals:
Two quarter-final matches being held at Glen Waverley were swamped when a deluge of rain and golf ball size hail hit the area flooding the greens and causing postponement until tomorrow AM in an attempt to complete the matches prior to the scheduled Semi-finals at 1.00 PM at another venue.

Sunday 28th February 2010.

Glen Waverley 2 runners-up in Section final:
In the Division 3 Section 4 Final played on a free running green at Heatherdale today Glen Waverley relinquished a five shot lead shortly after the tea break to go down by 9 shots to Mooroolbark after 100 ends. This effectively ends the Pennant Season for our Club as we now have to regroup for the ensuing 2010-11 season. Congratulations to all who participated and endeavoured to win for the Club.

Saturday 27th February 2010.

A home win & an away loss:
Things went according to the script in the Sectional semi-finals played today. Side 1 were playing at Mooroolbark and the home side were victorious winning by 12 shots. This was the fourth loss in a row for our senior side who seemed to go of the boil towards the end of the home & home fixture. This loss ensures that they will again play in Division 2 next season.
On the other hand Side 2 playing at home against Vermont South 2 and trailing by 15 shots at tea and well into the second half when they staged a remarkable come from behind performance to win by only 1 shot after the final bowl was played. This win ensures that they will contest Division 2 in the 2010-11 season. It was an exciting match for all players and spectators concerned and sets up a Section Final to be played at Heatherdale tomorrow (Sunday) against Mooroolbark the winner of another close match (2 shots) played at Heathmont.

Wednesday 24th February 2010.

Sectional Finals at Glen Waverley:
As previously reported Side 2 will play Vermont South (2) at Glen Waverley in a Sectional Semi-final. We have also been allocated two Sectional Finals (Division 4 Sect. 5 and Division 5 Sect. 5) to be played on Sunday 28th February.

Tuesday 23rd February 2010.

Ladies have a quiet day.
The 2009-10 Pennant Season came to a dreary end with only two of the six sides winning. What did it matter they weren't going anywhere anyway. With the advent of Bowls Victoria the competition may change its format some time in the future - it seriously needs a lift. With the current system the same Clubs participate in the finals each season and there is not much the others can do about it. The change from Sides of 16 to 12 did little to change the overall outcome of things. The good news is, unlike the men, that only one Side 5 (B1) will be relegated, the rest live to fight another day.

Sunday 21st February 2010.

A black Day for Glen Waverley Men:
Playing in Round 18 of the 2009-10 Pennant Competition our top side failed for the third week in a row and finished scoring three points against Croydon which was sufficient to hold out Burwood District (2) by one point to take fourth position. Instead of the expected "home" semi-final they will now play at Mooroolbark on their synthetic green. Side 2 managed two winning rinks at Bayswater and will play a "home" semi-final against Vermont South (2).
As if things could be any worse - Sides 3, 4, & 5 all finished in 9th place of their respective tables and will all be relegated for the next season. The sectional finals are played next Saturday & Sunday which will determine which Divisions Sides 1 & 2 will be in the 2010-11 season.

Thursday 18th February 2010.

"Same olds" win RSL Triples:
The same combination who were successful way back in 2004 today repeated the dose by taking out the RSL Triples final played at Sunshine RSL. This is a feather in the caps of Brian Youdan, Guy Moore & Rod de Fraga who were representing Waverley RSL Bowls Section. Congratulations to all concerned.

Tuesday 16th February 2010.

Glen Waverley trio do well in RSL Triples:
Rod de Fraga, Guy Moore and Brian Youdan (s) will represent Waverley RSL in the finals of the RSL Triples competition. The semi-finals will be held at Sunshine RSL on Thursday next. They were successful in winning this event in 2004 and we wish them well in their latest attempt.

Saturday 13th February 2010.

Ladies go west at Kew Heights Sports:
In a disappointing finish to the season our Saturday VLBA Division 1 Side lost by 38 shots to Yarraville-Footscray in the final played at Kew Heights Sports. The Glen Waverley side have played in three of the last four finals in this division winning in 2006-07.

High drama for RVBA teams next Sunday:
Our number one side lost their second game in as many weeks when they were convincingly beaten by lowly home side Chirnside Park. After today's results only four premiership points separate second to fifth position on the table. To be sure of maintaining second place Glen Waverley must beat Croydon on all rinks in their home match next Sunday or sweat out results from other matches.
After another tight finish Side 2 hold a 17 point lead over third placed Mooroolbark but must win on at least one rink at Bayswater to be sure of second spot.
Side 3 are in a serious relegation battle with Cheltenham 3. Glen Waverly have a four point advantage with both sides playing away at Noble Park and Berwick in the final round.
After today's loss Side 4 need to beat Monbulk 2 on all rinks at home to stave of relegation.
Although Side 5 earned 18 points today they still face an uphill battle to avoid relegation and would probably need to win against Mooroolbark (5) away and hope for Upwey-Tecoma (2) to lose against Heathmont (5).
Side 6 have a 8 point buffer over the second last side, Greythorn, they will need to win on at least two rinks to survive.
Finally, Side 7 have a two point lead over 9th placed Donvale 5. They will also have to win on 2 or 3 rinks to be sure of survival.

Wednesday 10th February 2010.

Ladies successful at Glen Eira-McKinnon:
In a recent open tournament held at Glen Eira- McKinnon with over 150 entrants a Glen Waverley Four represented by Ann Dinn, Carole Klop, Maureen Connolly and Pat Joint finished runners-up going down by only 2 shots.

Replacement of Rink Markers:
Your Greens Committee headed by Grounds & Greens Director, Barrie Sleep are currently working towards replacement of the concrete blocks that have served as rink markers since the Clubs inception. Although there have not been any serious accidents caused by these blocks over the years, they are not fixed and do not comply with the latest laws of the game. The new markers will be similar to those currently in use on "D" Green.

Finals matches for VLBA Saturday Pennant:
The Finals for this seasons VLBA Saturday Pennant will be conducted at Kew Heights Sports Club on Saturday next 13th February commencing at 12.30 PM. Glen Waverley No1 Side will be competing against Footscray-Yarraville.

Pennant Season coming to an end:
The VLBA Tuesday Pennant has one more home & away round to complete for this season but will not be held until Tuesday 23rd February. Unfortunately the Tuesday "girls" will not be competing in any finals matches this season but should manage to maintain the status quo.
The RVBA pennant has two matches to complete and the Round 18 matches will be played on Sunday 21st February due to the Australian Open Final event being on the Saturday. The top two sides are currently in second place on the table and if this can be maintained will be hosting a home semi-final in the sectional play-off system. Some of the remaining sides are in "a little bit of trouble" and due to the complex scoring system where 18 points are allotted to each match are in a position where relegation is inevitable.
